Excel at Screen Recording and Video Editing with TechSmith Camtasia Training

TechSmith Camtasia Training Course Melbourne

TechSmith Camtasia Training when you need it

Techsmith Camtasia’s basic function is to record video of your computer’s screen or a portion of the screen. It is primarily used for creating video tutorials and presentations. The screen area to be recorded can be selected, and audio or other multimedia recordings can be recorded at the same time. They can also be added separately from other sources and then integrated into the video.

Camtasia has a huge variety of post-processing tools targeted at the educational and information development marketplace. The two main components of Camtasia are the Camtasia Recorder and the Camtasia editor. The first is used to capture screen audio and video, the second contains a timeline interface for managing your recorded clips and enhancements.

TechSmith Camtasia FAQ's Frequently Asked Questions

TechSmith Camtasia FAQ's

Camtasia is frequently used for creating video tutorials and presentations. These are created directly via screencast, or by using a direct recording plug-in to Microsoft PowerPoint.

The user’s screen can be recorded, and audio can either be recorded at the same time or added separately from any other source and integrated.

Camtasia started out as a screen capture application but it has since evolved to integrate screen capture and post-processing tools targeted at both the educational and information multimedia development marketplace.

Key features of Camtasia:

  • Screen Capture
  • Behaviours – allow you to apply animations to text, images or icons
  • Animated backgrounds, icons and music tracks
  • Motion graphics, including lower thirds and intro slides
  • Cross-platform collaboration to work with both Mac and Windows

These are just some of the features available in Camtasia, but of course, there are many more.

Have you ever wondered why the Dummies books are so popular? Well, it’s probably because so many of us are self-taught, using Google to find out how to use a function, or we are shown how to use software by someone at work.

Although this can be useful, it also means we tend to spend a lot of time with trial and error, or we are just picking up somebody else’s bad habits.

Trial and error, unfortunately, involves a lot of error, and the bad habits you pick up will probably be passed on to the next person, so soon they spread across the business, meaning entire teams can end up working inefficiently.

At this point, you might head to the bookstore or do an online search to find a Camtasia book to help solve some of those tricky issues.

That’s a step in the right direction, and we sometimes use reference manuals ourselves. The problem is that trying to learn by trial and error may cost you many times the cost of a good training course.

Our Camtasia courses are designed to target the key features and tools included in the various applications to help you get back to work and apply them right away.

Attending a TechSmith Camtasia course with Keystroke Learning will show you how to use the most efficient methods to achieve your daily tasks. Not only that, but you will discover best practices and shortcuts to make your business tasks even quicker, so you can get on with your day. Our goal is to help you get to the point where you are focussed on the task at hand rather than the tool you are using.

Typically, one of our experienced trainers will walk you through the features and functions of the software, then you will try them out on your own, with tips and guidance on getting the best out of the features. We also encourage participants to ask lots of questions to help you get the most out of your learning experience.”

You’ll receive a manual to take away at the end of the course, as well as exercise files so you can practice later, or just to jog your memory when you need it.

Camtasia can do all three at once. You just need to make sure that your screen region is selected.

Then check that both your built-in audio and your system audio options are selected. Once this is done, you can record all three at the same time.

Sure you can! Open the quiz view bar on your timeline. (Keyboard shortcut – Q).

In the quiz menu, add a name for your quiz and your questions and answers. Click the add button for more questions.

Customise your question type (Multiple Choice, Fill in the Blank, Short Answer, True/False).

Once you are done, select one of the Produce and Share options with the interactive capabilities you need for the quiz.
Choose your export options and how you want to record your results. (SCORM for your LMS is a good choice).

Save your production and you are ready to go.

When the quiz point comes up in your production, the Quiz option pops up at the bottom of the player.

Once you have created your video course, click on the Share – Local File. Place a title in the Export as and choose Export to MP4 as the file format. Ensure that the Include Quiz and Include SCORM boxes are checked.

Click on the Options button beside include SCORM and fill out Title, Description and Subject details needed.

Select the version of SCORM, then set your passing score and completion requirements.

For example, you can set a passing score of 75%, so that the learner must get 75% of questions correct to pass, and a percentage required of 100%, meaning that the entire video must be viewed.

Return to the previous screen and click Export. Camtasia will export a Zip folder that can then be uploaded to your LMS.

If you want to link to a website from your video or allow viewers to replay or skip certain sections, then an interactive hotspot is exactly what you need.

Interactive hotspots can direct viewers to different sections of your video, give them replay options, or launch a website.

A hotspot is an effect, so it must be applied to an asset already added to the timeline.

Click and drag the Interactive Hotspot effect from the Video FX tab onto the timeline or canvas to the media clip, shape, callout, or text annotation you need to set.

With the asset containing the hotspot selected on your timeline, open the properties panel and edit the Interactive Hotspot section. When entering a URL or Time, don’t forget to press Enter to commit the changes. Several options are available:

  • Pause at the end: The user must click the hotspot to continue viewing the video
  • URL: Opens a web page when clicked
  • Marker: The video jumps to a marker in the video
  • Time: The video jumps to a specific frame
  • Click to continue: The user must click the callout to continue viewing the video

Your learning doesn’t stop once you have completed your course. We hope you will continue your experience by taking some time to practice what you have learned and apply it to your own situation and environment.
